Citizen Cake

Okay, so Citizen Cake is way to precious for me. The perfect little architectonic desserts, (for $7-10 each!) fussy food, and high prices really turn me off.

Having said that, I'm not above eating a lemon cookie from there once in awhile, and their gelato is quite good. I've only tried the fruit flavors, so I can't speak to the chocolate, vanilla, etc.

I tried the meyer lemon gelato and the honey tangerine gelato today. The honey tangering was more like a sherbet. Intense citrus flavor with a hint of honey. It was a beautiful tangerine orange, and quite nice. I opted for the meyer lemon just because it was more tangy and I love tangy lemon treats. I realized after a few bites that the gelato was made with cream cheese, and that there were little tiny cream cheese bits throughout. Not bad, but not a choice I would have made were I the gelato maker.

The shortbread cookie sandwich with lemon cream cheese frosting was, as usual, divine.
