Fashion District, LA
J had to go to court downtown today, so it was a chance for me to go prowl around the Fashion District without wasting a few gallons of gas. The Fashion District is LA's wholesale garment and textile district. People don't realize it, but Los Angeles has more manufacturing than any other city in the U.S., and one the biggest industries around is garment production.
The stores in The Fashion District therefore have access to a lot of great fabric. In fact, I heard there's nowhere in the country where an individual can have access to such a large variety of textiles without having a wholesale/retail license. Everything from 99 cent polyester to $10o embroidered brocade to $300 fur pelts can be found if you look hard enough. Today I was shopping for silk taffeta (successful!) but I bought a $5 piece of this fun canvas too. I don't know what I should do with it though. Make a tote? A zippered knitting kit? A few small zippered pouches?

Hm, after looking at it all afternoon I'm thinking an apron (one that goes over the chest and down almost to the knee) and a bag or pouch, depending how much is left over.
I was happy. I really was. Then…I stumbled upon your photo journalism, musings, rants, raves and essentially – your blog. I have yet to decide if this is a blessing or something tragic in the worst way. An innocent search for “Gochi Pictures” is what led me to your little nook of utopianism.
I was under the mistaken mentality that sitting on death row was the cruelest form of punishment; that is, until I looked through your pictures at 1 am this morning. Pictures of restaurant food I can live with; they bring back fond memories if I’ve dined there or they’re just a reminder to visit. However pictures of your cooking and presentation have left my previously content stomach an empty void. How punitive.
“Read this blog at your own risk; a full stomach and/or a quart of ice cream is recommended,” should be a disclaimer in BOLD.
Many food centric blogs/ sites have come across my screen, and yours truly stands out. Your insight, understanding and brilliance in regards to everything culinary and epicurean are formidable. My hat is off before you, I am genuinely afflicted.
Thanks for the read. I’ll have read more when I work up the courage.

Wow, I thought my ego was already enormous; there will be no living with me now!
Thanks for the compliments, and welcome to the site, Wallace.
awww that a great comment! I agree that the presentation and insight is what makes me come back for more, besides you being my friend. ;)
I think a tote or pouches would be super cute.
LOL...have you named your 'ego' yet? I hope you can still fit through standard doorways, but you seem to be so crafty that widening doorways should be a mere mortal task.
Anyways...I'm obviously suffering withdraws. 2 things:
1. your blog needs a search function.
2. next time you're in the city:
Michaelis Wine & Spirit
2198 Union Street
San Francisco, CA 94123
Maybe you've been...but it fits along your pursuit of fro-yo.

Union Street...*sniffle*...possibly my favorite street in SF. Definitely top 5. Now you're making me have withdrawal.
