Susina Bakery & Cafe

Holy moly, site hits today have hit 500!!! That's a record!

Los Angeles, this is what happens when you deprive a whole population of a source of proper sweets. I post about two great dessert places, and people flood the site. Anyway...moving right along.

My first thought when I walked into Susina today was "Now this is what I call a bakery!" Los Angeles seems to be devoid of charming little cafes and bakeries. Probably, as T likes to point out, because half the population is carb-phobic. What a sad way to live.

In a town like this, Susina is a breath of fresh air. The decor reminds me of Emporio Rulli in San Francisco. There's a huge glass case filled with Italian cookies, chocolate confections, whole cakes, breakfast pastries, cookies, and panini sandwiches. I felt a little self-conscious with my camera, so I didn't take a picture of the huge table behind me overflowing with stacks of boxed chocolates, easter candies, fancy granola, and a hundred other things.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO SHE-HULK! Sorry, I bought myself some cake for your birthday. I decided on the triple blossom cake. It's about a million times prettier and tastier than Sweet Lady Jane's triple berry cake. The cake layers are fluffy and moist, the berries are sweet and soft, the cream's not too sweet, and there are airy meringue chips pressed into the sides. I don't care for white chocolate shavings much, but these had almost no flavor so they were inoffensive and pretty.

If I don't like the cakes my caterer makes, Susina's definitely the #1 choice for a wedding cake! Amazingly, they also deliver.

  • One thing about Susina for wedding cakes... They don't do 'tiers', they do stacked which can be a bit more of a pain to cut. However, one of my favorite 'modern' wedding ideas is to use multple cake stands and different cakes so you can have a PROPER cake table that is very impressive. And Susina's lovely cakes are just PERFECT for that idea. :D

  • OMG what are you doing to me? I could die happy diving into a table with three or five Susina cakes lined up on it.

  • LOL! Sorry dear! :) They have lovely pictures on their website so you can get the idea. And if you like Carrot Cake... Theirs is the best I've had. The only quibble P. had was that it had NO raisins... LOL!!

  • While their food is tasty, I find their speed of service and friendliness to be really lacking.
