Advice Needed: Seattle

Today, I have a request for everyone. Have any of my readers been to Seattle? I went once when I was a very small child, but I don't remember much besides thinking it was very pretty. I'll be going for about 10 days in November, and other than remembering to pack warm clothes I'm pretty clueless. So here are some questions:
  • What are some must-hit restauarants? All prices ranges needed!
  • What types of cuisine are most worth trying in Seattle?
  • Does Seattle have a decent public transportation system? I know there's no real subway, but should I be parking my car and bussing all day or driving to each location?
  • What are some sites worth seeing? I want to go to the art museum if Dale Chihuly's sculptures are on display, and a stop by the library seems worthwhile just because it looks gorgeous. Yes, I'm a nerd, it doesn't take a lot to amuse me.
  • What are some fun neighborhoods to wander for shopping?
  • Where is the best (or what are the contenders for best) coffee?
As you can tell, I'm a total Seattle newbie. This will be the first trip of many over the next few years, so I don't need to pack everything in one trip. I just want to have an enjoyable and relaxing week, see a few interesting places, do some shopping, and eat some great food. Thanks!

I stayed at Hotel Andra a couple of years ago, and I thought their restaurant Lola was good. It's Northwest food done in a Greek style. I just remember it being full of flavor. Also, although touristy, I like Pikes Market. Its fun to taste all the different produce/fruits and of course watch the fish flying. Across from the entrance there was a little stand that served some hot and tasty Bao. And another one that had good deep fried Halibut.
I'm glad to see you getting back into your grove again. I really missed you when you were gone. G

My wife and I were just there a few weeks ago. I highly recommend the Savor Seattle culinary tour of Pike's Place Market (http://www.savorseattletours.com/). They also offer another tour for the surrounding area which sounds great but I haven't done that one yet. Book ahead because it fills up. Also, any restaurant owned by Tom Douglas is great. He owns the one mentioned in the other comment, Lola. Etta's is great, make sure not to miss the crab cakes. Tom Douglas literally wrote the book on crab cakes. His pizza place is called Serious Pie and offers some pizzas you won't find anywhere else. It's tough to get a table sometimes but definitely worth it. You can check out menus at his website http://www.tomdouglas.com/. Also, you can easily walk to each restaurant. We had dinner at Etta's and drinks and dessert at the Palace Cafe. Gotta go, can't wait to read how it went for you.

I am also going to Seattle in November. Other than a delicious halibut sandwich in Pike's Place market, the only thing I can help with (at this point, since I haven't started researching for my own trip yet) is coffee. Here's what's on my list:

Vivace
Victrola
Top Pot
Uptown Espresso

I've been to Vivace and Uptown Espresso. Both were excellent, especially Vivace. I think most of the places on that list have more than one location.

Enjoy your trip! I look forward to see where you end up going.

Queen Anne's Hill (or you can go to the park nearby) has a very nice view of downtown and Puget Sound... you may need a car though...
