Simply put: one of the BEST traditional sushi joints in San Francisco, with friendly, attentive staff, fresh fish, gorgeous food, and warm ambiance.
Sit at the bar at Daigo, keep your ears open, and you'll soon realize that everyone's a regular. Go more than once, and Jeff the manager/host will remember not only your face, but where you last sat AND what sake you enjoyed.
Give Eric behind the sushi bar a few pointers about what you like, and then give him free reign to pick and choose the specials of the day for you. We like to order about 1/3 of our meal, then leave the rest to him. His choices are superb, creative, and result in a carefully balanced meal.
Daigo manages to excel in both the ultra traditional (homemade ankimo, some of the most tender you'll find in SF) and elegantly nouveau (truffled hamachi shots, unexpected yet delicious). Finally, my longing for the sushi houses of Los Angeles is subsiding.
